Beyond Thanksgiving: Contemporary Native American Literature for Kids and Teens

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

November isn't the only month that Native American authors (and students) should be represented in schools. Learn more about contemporary Native authors portraying both historical and modern Native characters and communities, from picture books to young adult literature. An overview of resources and a short list of dos and don'ts will also be included.

Goals include: Ensuring representation of Native students in curriculum, expanding non-Native students' understanding beyond stereotypes and myths, and helping teachers determine which Native-related materials are culturally accurate and appropriate (R.I.S.E. Goals 1 and 3).
