AAIM 2019

EAST is one of the most exciting instructional programs in Arkansas. EAST provides all learners the opportunity to have relevant, MISSION individualized, life-changing educational experiences. Library/EAST collaborations present unique opportunities not only to enhance EAST projects but helps to make libraries 21st-century spaces that provide learning and growth options for all students. Come learn about ways we have used library collaborations with EAST to enhance students learning. Examples of collaborative projects will be shared and ideas will be provided to help you collaborate with your EAST program.

This interactive session will highlight the benefits of using children’s literature (from fairy tales to picture books) to foster more dynamic discussions-regardless of age. The presenter will share what elements to look for and discuss at the heart of children’s literature to elicit a variety of responses that will increase students’ attentiveness, engagement, and ability to recognize and appreciate diverse experiences of their peers stemming from recognizing common experiences and the emotional connections at the core of the readings.

Digital technology will be shared to enrich reading experiences and assist struggling readers. This session will actively address R.I.S.E. goals 1 and 3, as we share examples of technology that sharpens the focus and strengthens literacy instruction and offers suggestions to build a culture of reading for EVERY student!

MakerCare – Creating for a Need, Through Design Thinking
The maker movement has global impact and is quickly spreading through our
communities and education system. Join Maker Maven to learn more about design
thinking and the ‘empathy impact’ for 21st century student makers. This session will
give you the history of making and design thinking, and inspire you to foster
empathetic makers in your makerspace and classroom. Great take-away ideas and
immediate implementations available.

Come and play! This is an interactive, hands-on experience. Lots of gadgetry and things and people of interest in an expansive space. The atmosphere is casual and questions are encouraged!
