Shelly Porter grew up in Western Kansas and became a Northwest Arkansas transplant in 2001. She received her BS in Early Childhood Education from the University of Arkansas Fort Smith in 2006 and her MLIS from San Jose State University in 2016. Shelly has participated in summer institutes at the Library of Congress, Crystal Bridges, and the Walton Arts Center. In 2015 Shelly received a Swensrud Teacher Fellowship from the Massachusetts Historical Society where she created an American Revolution Art Investigation unit based on paintings, portraits, and prints in the MHS collection. Shelly was recently selected to attend both the George Washington Teacher Institute Residential Program at Mount Vernon and the Truman Presidential Library Summer Teacher's Conference and was selected to participate in the 2019/20 Arkansas Declaration of Learning Program. Shelly is the K-4 Teacher Librarian at West Fork Elementary School and is an Arkansas Computer Science K-8 Lead Teacher. Shelly represents AAIM on both the Charlie May Simon and the Arkansas Diamond book selection committees.
